Regular followers of this blog (if you exist at all…) may have noticed that I haven’t posted anything or replied to comments in the past week, and may be wondering why I haven’t been doing anything lately.

Well, the answer is, quite a lot. This past week I’ve been away at a band camp at McDaniel College without internet access, so it wasn’t really possible to post anything up here. I can’t access the internet from my phone so I was kind of cut off from the outside world. Hell, it wasn’t until half the world knew about Michael Jackson’s death that I heard about it.

I think the scariest part of checking Facebook when I came back was seeing this:

holyshit2I wasn’t really that behind on anything else… a few extra followers on Twitter (even though I hadn’t updated in a week!) and a handful of comments here and that’s all, but I had a hella lotta stuff on Facebook to get to when I came back.

And about comments, I’ll get to them as soon as I have time, but it seems so far that there has been some clash and discussion in the comments without my help, which is always nice.

Anyways, that will wrap this up for today… I’ll see if I can come up with a post tomorrow or possibly later this week.

Cheers,

Jacky

celebration-fireworksThis is my 100th post.

To me, the fact that I even managed to get to 100 is extraordinarily amazing. When I started this blog, I didn’t really think I’d get to 50 posts, let alone 100 unique posts. As I’ve posted my random ramblings on the internet, I’ve watched my stats get better and better. Sure, this may not be the most popular blog on the internet, but I feel like I’ve come a long way.

Blogging started out as a project that I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to continue. When I started blogging, everything was rather raw, and I didn’t really develop a voice (check out my first few posts as examples). As I wrote more, though, I felt like I was starting to develop my own, unique voice. That’s probably the greatest advantage of blogging for me: I’ve gotten so much better at writing ever since I’ve started blogging actively.

Of course, I do have reasons why I like blogging, but not only has blogging become an enjoyable activity that’s now an everyday kind of thing, it’s also helped me so much with everyday life.

  1. Synthesizing information – I’ve gotten exponentially better at research papers because I now can effectively pull information from different sources. Before, research alone for a paper would take me days, but now I can finish the preliminary research in a matter of hours.
  2. Budgeting time – It’s tough to make sure to write a new post every day and still have time to run, do homework, play flute, play guitar, play harmonica, and keep some semblance of a social life. Hell, it’s nearly impossible. But somehow, I manage to fit everything in. Of course, I may miss a day or two blogging here or there, but keeping myself on a regular schedule for blogging has helped me keep a regular schedule for everything else in my life. Days seem so short now that I have so much to do, but now I can finish multiple tasks when before I’d stress to finish half of them.
  3. Writing – I’ve actually developed a writing voice now, something I’ve lacked for a long time. Writing on a regular basis like blogging has definitely helped me develop my voice quicker. If it wasn’t for this blog, I’d still be writing horribly.
  4. Efficiency – Kinda goes with #2, but now I’ve become so much more efficient at doing everyday tasks. Trying to write a blog post every day while I’m busy with running, music, and schoolwork definitely forced me to do things more efficiently.

So, I’ll probably continue blogging, and (hopefully) people will continue to read my stuff. But whatever happens, I’ll still like to blog.

I was away from my computer the last two days for some rather pressing engagements, so I honestly did not expect many views on my blog. Now you can imagine my surprise when I look at the stats page and see that 2 days ago, when I wasn’t on my computer, I had gotten 701 page views.

To go from averaging 200-300 views a day this past month to 701 in a single day was… surprising. What was even more surprising though, was the fact that the math didn’t add up at all. Check out these screenies:

what

Don't make fun of my stats!

what2

Now, that just doesn’t add up. Even if you add up all the referrer views and the individual post views, it’s only 139, which means I have 562 views unaccounted for. I don’t know about you, but I think something weird is going on here…

What’s even weirder though, is the fact that I got traffic from AI and condron even though I hadn’t submitted my blog those days at all. I hadn’t even submitted it to the viewing list the day before.

I think there’s a little glitch with the stat system. But hey, you won’t find me complaining.

laughBlogs are hardly new, and funny blogs have been around since the beginning of blogs. The blogs that I love to read are the ones that can make me laugh and help me relieve my stress. Sometimes I just want to laugh, and occasionally it’s hard to find something funny on the internet randomly. So, I go to my bookmarked list of sites and blogs that I know will get a good laugh out of me. But where to start? Well, here’s 3 to start with:

twitterprofile1I’ve been thinking to myself recently, especially since the 2nd month anniversary of this blog is coming up, why exactly did I ever think of starting to do this? I mean, blogging has started to take so much time from my day that I begin to wonder what kind of crazy thought lead me to create this blog in the first place, and how in the world I’m ever going to make it productive. It took me a while to think of reasons to continue blogging, but it was enough to keep me going. And enough for a new post too, which is good since I’m now suffering from an extreme case of blogger’s block.

And so, without further ado, 6 reasons why I blog:

I bet a lot of you have gotten many hits from either condron or alphainventions, and I’m sure you’re wondering what these sites are.

Well, they’re basically brilliant little blog surfing sites that show you blog posts as they are posted/updated. Basically, if you upload a new post, alphinventions and condron will ’see’ it and then show it on their sites. If you visit the sites, you’ll see that they show a new blog every few seconds or so. This is so that you get to see many new blog entries while you’re on the site.

While condron and alphainventions basically do the same thing, they differ in a few ways. Click to see how to get more views!
