“The pen is mightier than the sword.”
Where does this leave the choice writing instrument for various students, the pencil? For that matter, who has ever praised the pencil at all? Is this empirical proof that the pen is greater than the pencil, or is the greatness of the pencil so universally accepted that praise is redundant?
The question of pen or pencil has bugged me, and likely a few other students, for quite some time. There are multiple angles to examine this predicament by and ultimately it probably just comes down to personal preference, but I am determined to throw in my 2 cents.
“The pencil is mightier than the sword…” that just sounds silly doesn’t it?

Believe it or not, those are actual comments that I have copied from YouTube videos. To those unfamiliar with the ways of the internet, those words may seem rather harsh. To those who consistently browse internet forums and sites like YouTube, they may seem rather tame. Those who have become familiar with those sites may actually have become immune to such comments and if you’re anything like me, you’ll subconsciously ignore them completely.
Sometimes it just seems that nobody on the internet is capable of writing something nice. It’s the Wild West up here: it’s lawless, popular, and strangely attractive. There’s a whole new set of rules here, but why exactly should there be?
